Tamsulosin hydrochloride is an antagonist of alpha1A adrenoceptors in the prostate
used to improve symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy). It works by relaxing muscles in the bladder and prostate. This may improve urine flow rates and decrease urinary hesitancy/urgency.

Before using Tamsulosin:
Some medical conditions may interact with Tamsulosin. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
you should know that tamsulosin is only for use in men. Women should not take tamsulosin, especially if they are pregnant or could become pregnant or are breast-feeding. If a pregnant woman takes tamsulosin, she should call her doctor.
if you have allergies to medicines or other substances
if you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to any sulfonamide (sulfa) medicine, such as acetazolamide, celecoxib, certain diuretics (eg, hydrochlorothiazide), sulfonylureas (eg, glyburide), probenecid, sulfamethoxazole, valdecoxib, or zonisamide.
if you have a history of liver or kidney problems, or high or low blood pressure, or prostate cancer
if you will be having eye surgery
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Tamsulosin:
Alpha-blockers (eg, prazosin) or phosphodiesterase inhibitors (eg, sildenafil) because symptoms of low blood pressure (eg, severe dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting) may occur
Azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), cimetidine, or serotonin specific reuptake inhibitors (eg, fluoxetine) because they may increase the risk of Tamsulosin's side effects
Warfarin because the risk of side effects may be increased
What side effects can this medication cause?
sleepiness , difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
weakness , back pain
diarrhea , runny or stuffy nose
pain or pressure in the face
sore throat, cough, fever, chills, or other signs of infection
blurred vision
difficulty ejaculating
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
painful erection of the penis that lasts for hours
rash , itching , hives
swelling of the eyes, face, tongue, lips, throat, arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
