Usual Dosage

Oral:

Children: 5 g is dissolved in 250 mL water; additional fluids are permitted and are encouraged for children

Adults: 25 g dissolved in 200-300 mL water followed with an additional 200-400 mL water or 5 g dissolved in 200-300 mL water followed by an additional 200-400 mL water


Patient Information

Fast overnight prior to test (8 hours); infants <1 year of age should fast for 4-5 hours


Nursing Implications

Monitor urinary and blood xylose concentration
