Mechanism of
Action |
|
A 1-substituted imidazole derivative with a broad antifungal spectrum against
a wide variety of dermatophytes and yeasts, usually at a concentration less than
or equal to 6.25 mg/L; has been demonstrated to be at least as active in
vitro as other imidazole antifungals. In vitro, tioconazole has been
demonstrated 2-8 times as potent as miconazole against common dermal pathogens
including Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. rubrum, T.
erinacei, T. tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Microsporum
gypseum, and Candida albicans. Both agents appear to be similarly
effective against Epidermophyton floccosum. |
