Plasma volume expansion and maintenance of cardiac output in the treatment of certain types of shock or impending shock

Usual Dosage

I.V.: 250-1500 mL/day


Administration

Albumin administration must be completed within 6 hours after entering the container, provided that administration is begun within 4 hours of entering the container; rapid infusion may cause vascular overload


Nursing Implications

5% albumin and 5% plasma protein fraction can usually be used interchangeably

Injection: 5% (50 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL)
