Adverse Reactions

Endocrine & metabolic: Hyperuricemia

Gastrointestinal: Nausea, cramps, constipation, diarrhea

Ocular: Lacrimation

Renal: Hyperuricosuria

Respiratory: Sneezing

Dermatologic: Rash

Gastrointestinal: Irritation of the mouth

Respiratory: Dyspnea, bronchospasm


Usual Dosage

The following dosage recommendations are only an approximation for initial dosages. The actual dosage will depend on the digestive requirements of the individual patient.

<1 year: 2000 units of lipase with meals/feedings

1-6 years: 4000-8000 units of lipase with meals and 4,000 units with snacks

7-12 years: 4000-12,000 units of lipase with meals and snacks

Adults: 4000-16,000 units of lipase with meals and with snacks

Oral: Swallow capsules/tablets whole; retention in the mouth before swallowing may cause mucosal irritation and stomatitis; for infants give with a small amount of formula

Capsule, enteric coated microspheres (Creon®): Lipase 8000 units, amylase 30,000 units, protease 13,000 units and pancreatin 300 mg

Tablet:

Digepepsin®: Pancreatin 300 mg, pepsin 250 mg, and bile salts 150 mg

Donnazyme®: Lipase 1000 units, amylase 12,500 units, protease 12,500 units and pancreatin 500 mg

Hi-Vegi-Lip®: Lipase 4800 units, amylase 60,000 units, protease 60,000 units and pancreatin 2400 mg
