Use

Adjunctive treatment of peptic ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, ureteral and urinary bladder spasm; to reduce duodenal motility during diagnostic radiologic procedures and treatment of an uninhibited neurogenic bladder

Contraindications

Angle-closure glaucoma; hypersensitivity to methantheline


Adverse Reactions

>10%:

Dermatologic: Dry skin

Gastrointestinal: Constipation, xerostomia, dry throat

Respiratory: Dry nose

Miscellaneous: Decreased diaphoresis

1% to 10%: Gastrointestinal: Dysphagia


Usual Dosage

Oral:

Children:

<1 year: 12.5-25 mg 4 times/day

>1 year: 12.5-50 mg 4 times/day

Adults: 50-100 mg every 6 hours

May cause confusion, amnesia, drowsiness, nervousness, or insomnia

Concurrent use with psychotropics may produce additive sedation or dry mouth
