Use

Topical treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea versicolor, and cutaneous candidiasis

Clinical effect on the fetus: Do not use during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, unless essential to a patient's welfare; use during the second and third trimesters only if clearly needed


Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to econazole or any component


Warnings/Precautions

Discontinue drug if sensitivity or chemical irritation occurs; not for ophthalmic or intravaginal use

Alters fungal cell wall membrane permeability; may interfere with RNA and protein synthesis, and lipid metabolism

Usual Dosage

Children and Adults: Topical:

Cutaneous candidiasis: Apply sufficient quantity twice daily (morning and evening)

Duration of treatment: Candidal infections and tinea cruris, versicolor, and corporis should be treated for 2 weeks and tinea pedis for 1 month; occasionally, longer treatment periods may be required
