Treatment of scabies ( Sarcoptes scabiei) and symptomatic treatment of pruritus

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to crotamiton or other components; patients who manifest a primary irritation response to topical medications


Warnings/Precautions

Avoid contact with face, eyes, mucous membranes, and urethral meatus; do not apply to acutely inflamed or raw skin; for external use only


Adverse Reactions

<1%: Local irritation, pruritus, contact dermatitis, warm sensation


Overdosage/Toxicology

Symptoms of ingestion include burning sensation in mouth, irritation of the buccal, esophageal and gastric mucosa, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain

There is no specific antidote; general measures to eliminate the drug and reduce its absorption, combined with symptomatic treatment, are recommended

Patient Information

For topical use only. Apply lotion to whole body from the chin down being sure to cover all skin folds and creases. Apply a second application 24 hours later. Avoid eyes. Take a bath 48 hours after application. All contaminated clothing and bed linen should be washed to avoid reinfestation. If cure is not achieved after 2 doses, use alternative therapy. Pregnancy/breast-feeding precautions: Inform prescriber if you are or intend to be pregnant. Consult prescriber if breast-feeding.

Lotion: Shake well before using; avoid contact with face, eyes, mucous membranes, and urethral meatus
