Contraindications

Glaucoma; prostatic hypertrophy; benign bladder neck obstruction; hypersensitivity to clidinium, chlordiazepoxide, or any component


Warnings/Precautions

Use with caution with alcohol or other CNS depressants because of possible combined effects. Do not abruptly discontinue this medication after prolonged use; taper dose gradually.


Adverse Reactions

1% to 10%: Drowsiness ataxia, confusion, anticholinergic side effects


Drug Interactions

Additive effects may result from concomitant benzodiazepine and/or anticholinergic therapy


Usual Dosage

Oral: 1-2 capsules 3-4 times/day, before meals or food and at bedtime

Should be administered before meals

Drowsiness is common; may cause confusion

Patient Information

Take as directed before meals; do not increase dose and do not discontinue without consulting prescriber first. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressant medications (antihistamines, sleeping aids, antidepressants) unless approved by prescriber. Void before taking medication. This drug may impair mental alertness (use caution when driving or engaging in tasks that require alertness until response to drug is known). Report excessive and persistent anticholinergic effects (blurred vision, headache, flushing, tachycardia, nervousness, constipation, dizziness, insomnia, mental confusion or excitement, dry mouth, altered taste perception, dysphagia, palpitations, bradycardia, urinary hesitancy or retention, impotence, decreased sweating), or change in color of urine or stools. Pregnancy/breast-feeding precautions: Do not get pregnant while taking this medication; use appropriate barrier contraceptive measures. Do not breast-feed.


Nursing Implications

After extended therapy, abrupt discontinuation should be avoided and a gradual dose tapering schedule followed
