Adverse Reactions

>10%:

Central nervous system: Drowsiness

1% to 10%:

Cardiovascular: Tachycardia, tightness in chest, flushing of face

Central nervous system: Syncope, mental depression, dizziness lightheadedness, headache, paradoxical stimulation

Dermatologic: Angioedema

Gastrointestinal: Stomach cramps, hiccups, nausea, vomiting

Neuromuscular & skeletal: Trembling

Ocular: Burning of eyes

Respiratory: Shortness of breath

Miscellaneous: Allergic fever


Usual Dosage

Adults: Oral: 800 mg 3 times/day, then adjusted to lowest effective dosage, usually 400 mg 4 times/day for up to a maximum of 2 months

Drowsiness is common; may cause depression or paradoxical stimulation

May rarely produce aplastic anemia or leukopenia; use caution with clozapine and carbamazepine
