local name of a buccopharyngeal infection occurring in Lebanon, probably caused by pentastomid larvae of the dog tongue worm, Linguatula serrata, which wander into the throat of the human host after ingestion of infected raw sheep, or goat liver or lymph nodes.
In Lebanon & syria ingestion of row liver containing adult worms resilt in Parasitic pharingitis or Halzoun
Adult worm attach themselves to the mucosa of the pharynx causing oedema , suffocation & dyspnoea
Halzoun Syndrome
Disease in humans due to infection with the dog pentastomid worm Linguatula serrata, which block the nasal pathways and may thus introduce oedema and unfeelingness of head regions.
Main clinical symptoms: Oedema, disturbances of organs
Incubation period: 7 days to months
Prepatent period: 6–7 months
Patent period: 15 months
Diagnosis: Microscopic determination of worm eggs in nasal mucus.
Prophylaxis: Avoid contact with dogs in tropical regions
[ Therapy: Provocation of sneezing, mechanical withdrawal of the worms , gargling with alcoholic drink
