ORGANOGENESIS = EMBROGENETIC period:
is the most sensetive phase for teratogenic malformation ;
" a) During fiest 2 weeks of development " predifferentiation stage
The response obey All or NON rule ; Death or pregnancy
Teratogenic agent may kill the embryo (abortion)
b) During the organogenetic period
Particularly from days 15-60 ( first trimester)
May couse major congenital malformations .
c) During the fetal period " fetal histogensis "
teratogens may produce minor morphological & functional ( physiological ) abnormalities particularly of the brain & the eye

ISOTRIENTOIN
isotrientoin :
is vit A derivative
used for treatment of Acne
Highly teratogenic
It couse congenital malformation :
a) triangular skull
b) cortical blindness
c) heart deffects
d) mental retardation
e) affect behavior , learning & attention
f) miscarriage
g) cleft palate
so isotrientoin is contra-indicated before pregnancy by 6 months: 1 year
vitA deficiency is very dangerous during pregnancy
becouse it couse
-eye : Anophthalmia & blindness
-head : hydrocephaly
-face : cleft palate
-defect in brain & heart
